Jonell Reisz Mischel

Jonell Reisz Mischel, of Owensboro, went to her eternal home Wednesday, April 9, 2025, just a few weeks short of celebrating 100 years of being loved. Mom passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, while being lovingly cared for by all seven of her daughters, who will cherish this memory forever. Jonell was born on May 1st, 1925, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to the late Herman and Edna Henning Reisz.

She spent most of her life in Owensboro. In addition to spending time with her family, Jonell enjoyed playing Scrabble, attending Mass and cherishing moments with her many grandchildren.

Jonell was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Gilbert R. Mischel, Sr.; her brothers, Norman and Otto Reisz; and her sisters, Sue Betts-Prew and Peggy Ross.

She is survived by her son, Gilbert R. Mischel, Jr. of Louisville; daughters, Brenda Jo Barton, Deborah Mischel, Mary “D.D.” Mischel, Lisa Tinnell (Nick), Kathy Hayden, Suzanne Shown (Bobby), all of Owensboro, and Rebecca Cecil (Tony) of Louisville; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 12 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Sorgho. Fr. Jamie Dennis and Fr. Richard Cash will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 4:30 until 7:00 PM, with 6:30 PM prayers led by Fr. Ray Clark, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. There will also be visitation at church Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. Private burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
