Mary Evelyn McKinnis

Mary Evelyn McKinnis, 86, of Owensboro, passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at her home. She was born September 13, 1931 in Sacramento, KY to the late Walker Ashton and Elizabeth Nall Whayne. Mary was a homemaker and a member of Eaton Memorial Baptist Church. She loved her church, her family, and was one who never met a stranger. Mary had joyfully served on the church kitchen and nursery committees. She was also preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Charles McKinnis, Sr. on May 3, 2002, and four brothers, David, Morton, Russell, and Wilbur Whayne.

Surviving are her son, Charles "Chuck" McKinnis, Jr. of Owensboro, daughter, Susan Johnson and husband Kent of Portland, Oregon; their children, Aaron (Devon) Johnson of Bend, Oregon, and great grandchildren Connor, Aiden, and Abigail, Stephen (Emily) Johnson of Portland, Oregon and great grandchildren Cooper, Mason, and Peyton, Kristen (Patrick) Aster of Washington, D.C., and Timothy (Laura) Johnson of North Bergen, New Jersey, daughter Diana Helms and husband Denny of Fort Worth, Texas, and their children, Lucas Helms of Raleigh, N.C., Rachael (Isaac) Mathews of Raleigh, N.C., Leah (Brian) Smith of Fort Worth, Texas, and Zachary Helms of Fort Worth, and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Mary's Life will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 18, at Eaton Memorial Baptist Church Bro. Dennis McFadden officiating. Entombment will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and from 12:00-1:00 P.M. Saturday at Eaton Memorial Baptist Church.
