Mary Helen Whitmer Mayes

Mary Helen Whitmer Mayes. 88, of 1239 Concord Terrace, Owensboro, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born on March 10, 1918 in Muhlenburg Co., Ky. to the late Charles E. & Eura Noffsinger Whitmer. She retired from the Opportunity Center Workshopin 1986 after 23 years. She was manager of the workshop the last seven years and received several certificates of appreciation for her service. She was honored as a Kentucky Colonel at her retirement by Joe Cole. She was a 1936 graduate of Owensboro Senior High School. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and had several leadership roles there in the past. She was an officer in the United Methodist Women and served on the board of the Help Office. She was an active member of the Breakfast Civitan Club in the 70s and 80s. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin W. Mayes on August 14, 2000.

Surviving is her daughter, Judith A. Mayes of Owensboro, a brother, Robert J. Whitmer of Philpot, a sister, Alma Lee Martin of Owensboro, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 3, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 9:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
