Mary Louise Phelps Maddox, 82, of Owensboro, died Thursday, March 11, 2004 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. Born in Sharpsburg, KY, a daughter of the late Earl and Hazel King Phelps, she was a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College and retired from the Owensboro Board of Education as a teacher of mathematics and science after 27 years. A member of Third Baptist Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and coordinator of the Senior Adult Fellowship, she also belonged to the Womans Club of Owensboro, the National Teachers Association, KEA, the Owensboro-Daviess County Teachers Association, the State Mathematics Council, and was a sustaining member of the Boy Scouts of America. Her husband, Stateler V. Maddox, preceded her in death in 1987.
Her son, William V. Maddox and his wife Linda, of Owensboro, three grandchildren, Natalie Flynn and her husband Scott, of Franklin, TN, William V. Maddox II of Henderson, and Nathan E. Maddox of Owensboro, and her sister, Elaine Phelps Sparks of Owensboro survive her.
Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 2 until 6 p.m. Saturday and from noon until 2:45 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the memorial Fund of Third Baptist Church or the Boy Scouts of America.
