Mary Helen Lee, 88, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born in Owensboro to the late Bertram and Mabel Cook Mattingly.
Helen retired from South Central Bell telephone company after more than thirty years of service. She went on to spend ten years working at Daviess County Hospital before her second retirement. Helen was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church. She never met a stranger, was an animal lover, enjoyed Hallmark movies and was one of the most avid U.K. fans you could imagine. To most, she was known as "Ms. Kentucky". Most of all, Helen loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and granddogs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Mattingly and son-in-law, Raymond Lamar.
Helen is survived by daughters, Cathy Bays and her husband Steve of Louisville, Cyndi Lamar of Owensboro; sons, Larry Lee and his husband David Carpenter of Houston and Barry Lee of Owensboro; grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Bays and Austin Woodward; brother-in-law, Bobby Field; many nieces, nephews and granddogs.
The funeral service will be 10 AM, Tuesday, December 27 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Dr. James Wedding will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 2 until 8 PM and Tuesday after 9 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery.
