Sister Mary Louise Knott, 84, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 53rd year of religious life. She was a native of Browns Valley.
Sister Mary Louise was a teacher and a parish minister, but was best known in recent years for her wonderful sewing creations. There was always a snowman or a Raggedy Ann doll to brighten someone's world that grew from her imagination.
She was a teacher at St. Peter of Alcantara, Stanley (1951-52), St. William, Knottsville (1965-66) and St. Martin, Rome (1977-78). She was parish minister at St. Joseph Catholic Center, Greenville (1994-95). She ministered at Maple Mount in the infirmary (1971-74, 1976-77), in the craft room (1992-94, 2003-05, 2006-13) and in hospitality at the Retreat Center (1993-94, 1998-2002). In 2007-08 she served as a sewing teacher and in a clinic in Jamaica. She also ministered elsewhere in the Diocese of Owensboro, in Louisville, Missouri and Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Proctor and Mary Florence Thompson Knott; her brother Charles Knott; her sister Marilyn Cabalier and infant sister Angela Knott. Survivors include five sisters, Alma (J. Richard) Gaw and Roberta Knott, Owensboro; Dottie (Larry) Elder, Sorgho; Rosita Libs, Evansville, Ind., and Kathleen (Mike) Boldrick, Santa Maria, Calif.; three brothers, Martin (Louise) Knott and Walter (Margaret) Knott, both of Owensboro, and Paul Knott, Miamisburg, Ohio; nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Tuesday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro, is in charge of arrangements.
