Mary Ruth "Sue" Onstott King

August 14, 1928 — March 9, 2017

Mary Ruth "Sue" Onstott King passed away peacefully in her home under the care of Hospice of
Western Kentucky and her children on March 9, 2017, surrounded by her children.
Mrs. King was born August 14, 1928, to Roberta Cook and James Herman Onstott in Daviess County,
Kentucky and was first a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she was baptized. Her husband of
48 years, Virgil C King, Jr, predeceased her on April 16, 2003. She was a longtime member of Bellevue
Baptist Church.
While working for Horace Harrison, MD, the training he provided allowed her to pass the first state
boards for Certified Medical Assistant in 1969. Beginning her career with Dr. Harrison and ending her
career with Drs. Hall and Ward, she was one of the best known and well respected CMAs in Owensboro.
Mrs. King loved to travel and went on many, many vacations with her family. After the children were
grown, she traveled with her husband, going to Hawaii and completing visits to all 48 continental states
of our great country. After Mr. King passed, she traveled with her children on many trips in the
continental United States, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe.
Mrs. King loved basketball and was an avid UK fan.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. King was predeceased by her sister, Beverly Jane Onstott
Lowe, her grandson, Virgil Clifton Halley and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is survived by her four children, Susan King, Gary King, Cary King and Kathy Halley. She is also
survived by her granddaughter, Heather (Derek) Hatley and their children, Bianca and Ava, and her
grandson, Samuel (Breanna) King and their children, Bradley, Charles and John, and great-grandson, Eli
Halley. Also surviving her are two very special nieces, Tami Lowe Neel and Evelyn Davis and close family
friend, Ron Wilson.
The family would like to thank Benjamin D. Keeley, M.D.; Kishor Vora, M.D.; Joseph Polio, M.D.; the staff
of Owensboro Center, and Hospice of Western Kentucky for their care.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association and
Hospice of Western Kentucky.
Visitation will be from 2-8 Wednesday and 10-12 on Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home. The funeral will
be at 12 noon on Thursday in the chapel at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory officiated by her great
nephew, Adam Neel, Administrative Pastor at Bellevue Baptist Church. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens with the graveside service officiated by Dr. Gregory Faulls, Senior Pastor at Bellevue Baptist Church.
