Mary Rose Clark Hayden, 79, of 2605 Reid Rd., Owensboro, died August 31, 2005 at the Owensboro Medical Health System after a brief battle with leukemia. Born in Mosleyville, Kentucky on March 1, 1926 to Robert L. and Theresa Bumm Clark, she was a homemaker, a loving mother and very devout Catholic. She was a founding member of St. Pius X Catholic Church where she played the organ regularly for 40 years, participated on the Parrish Council and School Board, organized a funeral choir, and stocked holy water for use by parishioners. She was an avid bridge player. Mrs. Hayden was preceded in death by her husband, William Gerald Hayden, Sr. in 1992.
Survivors include four sons, Jerry (Sherri) Hayden of Calhoun, Bob (Tammy) Hayden of Philpot, George (Belinda) Hayden of Madisonville, and Jack (Nikki) Hayden of Philpot; four daughters, Carol (Tom) Payne of Owensboro, Joan (Martin) Hayden of Knottsville, Patty (Denny) Ward of Richmond, VA, and Becky (John) Sowders of Louisville; 23 grandchildren, Jeff (Christy), Ben, Patrick (Julie), and Josh Payne, David and Daniel Hayden, Brandy, Christy, and Kevin Hayden, Meghan (Martin) Ho, Paul and Stuart Ward, Alison, Amy Lou, and Kyle Hayden, Sarah and Savannah Hayden, Hayden, Will, and Jack Sowders, Melissa, Jonathan, and Jeremy Hayden; three step-grandchildren, Khristy (Jeff) King, Marty and Tim Hayden; two great-grandchildren, Bailey, Alexis, and an expected great-grandson Payne; three step-great-grandchildren, T.J. Hayden, Katie and Rebecca King; two brothers, Sylvester Joseph Clark and Bernard Joseph Clark both of Owensboro; and two sisters, Mary Magdalene Clark Morris and Ann Theresa Clark Hardesty both of Owensboro.
Services are 11 A.M. Saturday, September 3, 2005 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation is after noon Friday and after 9 A.M. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home where prayers will be said at 7 P.M. Friday.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the St. Pius X Catholic Schools Tuition Assistance Fund, 3512 East 6th St, Owensboro, KY 42303. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
