Mary Carol Hanekamp

Mary Carol Hanekamp, 73, of 2547 Christie Place, of Owensboro, went to be with her Lord Jesus and Blessed Mother on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at her home, after a long and heroic battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. She was born November 28, 1933 to the late Spalding and Margaret Richardson Wathen in Daviess County. She was a housewife, an active member of Immaculate Catholic Church where she was chairman of the Minister of Care for the Sick of Immaculate Parrish, Eucharist Minister, past president of the Legion of Mary for 8 years, and vice-president for 6 years of the Commicum of the Legion of Mary. She taught CCD for two years at Immaculate, and also was president of the Mother Sodality of the Blessed Mother for one year. She was outstanding senior citizen at Immaculate Catholic Church in 2005 and was awarded the Sophia Award. The most important thing in her life was her family as she was a devoted wife, mother, loving grandmother and wonderful mother-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edwin Hanekamp in 2000, and her brother, Rev. James Francis Wathen in 2006.

Survivors include her daughters and son; Marcia Clouse and her husband, Kenny Clouse, Sr. of Owensboro, John W. Hanekamp and his wife, Diane of London, England, Maggie H. Groves and her husband, Richard D. of Philpot, Carol Cox and her husband, Craig of Owensboro and Cathy Wimsatt and her husband, Michael of Owensboro; thirteen grandchildren, Christy Halbig, Kenny Clouse, Jr., Eric Clouse, Sydney Clouse, Michael Hanekamp, D. Tucker Groves, James K. Groves, John Janes, Joe Janes, Andrew Janes, Jack Wimsatt, Jordan Wimsatt and Mary Megan Wimsatt; five brothers, Richard Wathen of West Palm Beach, FL, Robert L. Wathen of Orlando, FL, John H. Wathen of Greenwood, IN, S. Thomas Wathen and Patrick Wathen, both of Nazareth, KY; two sisters, Sr. Margaret Spalding of Nazareth, KY and Margaret Bauer of Norman, OK.

Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, at Immaculate Catholic Church with burial in St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 until 8:00 PM Monday at Glenn Funeral Home with prayers at 6:30 PM.
