Maple Mount Sister Mary Clement Greenwell, 101, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Sept. 23 at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 82nd year of religious life.
A native of Curdsville, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Elizabeth Sauer Byrne Greenwell.
An educator for over 50 years, Sister Mary Clement believed that even the most unlikely learner could become a good student. She taught until 1978, when she began a ministry of outreach and tutoring in Louisville, where she served until retiring to the Motherhouse in 1989. She loved playing cards, and has likely already started a game in heaven.
Sister Mary Clement taught in Owensboro at St. Joseph High School (1929-30), Blessed Mother School (1973-74), and Immaculate School (1974-76). She also taught at St. Anthony, Peonia (1956-58), in the Archdiocese of Louisville, in Missouri and New Mexico.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Thursday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
Glenn Funeral Home, Owensboro, is in charge of arrangements.
Gifts in memory of Sister Mary Clement Greenwell may take the form of donations to the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph, 8001 Cummings Road, Maple Mount, KY 42356.
