Mary Sue Gillians

November 7, 1920 — September 12, 2009

Mary Sue Schenk Gillians, born to the late Josephine and Carl Schenk, Sr., passed away at her home surrounded by her family on September 12, 2009. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lt Col. George D. Gillians, USMCR and grandson, T.J. Bartlett, IV and a brother, Carl Schenk, Jr.

She was a lifelong resident of Daviess County and 1938 DCHS graduate. She was employed at the Daviess County Clerks Office from 1938 until 2002 and served as Secretary to the Daviess County Fiscal Court. She was a charter member of St Pius Tenth Catholic Church where she founded the SPX 4-H Club. She also served on the Daviess County 4-H Executive Council and was a member of the Ensor Homemakers.

She was a world traveler but was always most happy at home spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved flowers and to garden. She enjoyed being outdoors in the sun and watching the hummingbirds in the summertime. During the winter months, she would enjoy watching UK basketball or traveling to a warmer climate. Strong in her faith, she was a caring, compassionate and loving woman who never had an unkind word to say about anyone. She also hosted Family Night every Wednesday for all of her family for over 30 years.

She is survived by her four children, Susan Bartlett (Jeff), Steve Gillians (Kim), Nancy Gillians, (Galit Shamay), all of Owensboro, and Beth Ackerman (Kenny) of Louisville, KY. Also surviving her are her grandchildren Katie Bartlett of Owensboro and Daniel, Lindsey, Carey and Michael Ackerman and step-grandchildren Greg Snyder and Barry Mordukhaev all of Louisville KY. She is also survived by two sisters, Kathleen Dean of San Jose, CA and Margaret Clark of Owensboro as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 12:30 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, with prayers at 7:00 PM, and after 8:30 AM Wednesday, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
Expressions of sympathy are kindly asked to take the form of donations to any of the following; Little Sisters of the Poor, Ursuline Sisters, Glenmary Sisters, Passionist Nuns or St Pius Tenth Catholic Church.
