Mary Simpson Foster of Philpot went to be with the Lord on October 14, 2009. She was 79, born October 29, 1929 in Daviess Co., Ky. She was married to Kenneth Edge Foster for 63 years. She was the mother of two children, a grandmother of seven, and great grandmother of 12.
At the time of her death, she had retired after more than 20 years at the GE tube division. Among her post-retirement jobs was a saleswoman for Mary Kay Cosmetics and an associate at Sublett's Dress Shop. She was a member of the Night Gals Homemakers Club and an organist and active church member of Dawson Baptist Church.
Mrs. Foster loved her grandchildren and was beloved by all of them, who knew her as Grandma Ken Ken. When she wasn't making her tea ball biscuits for the grandchildren, she was instructing them on the proper way to break beans, making blackberry cobbler for them or tucking them into bed, she enjoyed walking with her husband, bike riding and needlepoint. She canned vegetables, including her much requested green beans, and grew and arranged flowers of all kinds. She especially loved roses.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth, a sister Jean Lampkin of Philpot, a son Wayne Foster (Cathy) of Philpot, a daughter Jan Marks of St. Louis; seven grandchildren Michelle Jones (Jeff) of Philpot, Kyle Foster of Hopewell, New Jersey, Melonie Shane Young (Brian) of Newburgh, Indiana, Bob Foster of Sevierville, TN, Heather Naas (Matt) of Sevierville, Summer Payne (Brad) of Sevierville, and Philip Marks of St. Louis; 12 great grandchildren Amanda Jones, Jay Foster, Josh Jones, Kristen White, Caitlin Jones, Jenny Foster-Jones, Nathan Jones, Dax Young, Ana Nass, Cooper Foster, Alex Naas, and Autumn Payne.
