Mary Catherine Elder, 90, of Owensboro, passed away January 20, 2018. She was born January 11, 1928 to the late Leo Van and Mary Elizabeth Settles. She was a devout Catholic and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. As a young lady, she was employed by General Electric and Kentucky Electronics. Mary was instrumental in establishing the first Al Anon group in Owensboro. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose favorite activities were family gatherings and flower gardening.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Francis Elder; daughter, Linda Brown; grandson, Brandon Brown; and brothers, Gene Settles and Bill Settles.
She is survived by a son, John (Debbie) Elder of Bowling Green; daughters Mary Ann (Ken) Masters, Patricia (Tony) Howard and Jane (Jack) Wood; son-in-law, Eddie Brown, all of Owensboro; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great- great grandchildren; sisters, Betty (Doug) Howard, Joyce (Larry) Fogle; and a brother Jim (Patty) Settles.
The funeral Mass will be 1:00 PM Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and Tuesday visitation will be held after 12 Noon at church.
