Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Durbin, 98, of Owensboro passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation. The Daviess County native was born February 13, 1927, as the oldest of nine children to the late Floyd C. Montgomery and Loretta Rose Weaver Montgomery.
In addition to her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herman Joe Durbin; sons, Joseph E. Durbin and James R. Durbin; daughter, Judy Peak; granddaughter, Cindy Craddock and son-in-law, Stanley Dickenson; siblings, Bob Montgomery and wife Dena, Tom Montgomery and wife Janie; sisters-in-law, Jean Montgomery and Carolyn Montgomery; brothers-in-law, Mark Martin and Bob Martin.
She is survived by her sons, David Durbin and wife Karen and Rick Durbin both of Owensboro; daughter, Mary Dickenson of Rockport, Indiana; son-in-law, Bill Peak; daughter-in-law, Arlene Durbin; 16 grandchildren, Julie (Ray) Carlisle, John (April) Durbin, Amy (Don) Wilkins, Emily (Michael) Cissell, Shari (Aaron) Newton, Deanna (Kevin) Cole, Susan (Roger) Lampkin, Kim (Scott) Quinn, Tara (Glen) Dearing, Tammy (John) Goostree, Christopher Durbin, Stephanie (Jason) Hernandez, Jennifer (Leonard) Mireles, Michelle (Brad) Wireman, Krissy (Adam) Jones, and Robbie (Chasity) Durbin; 27 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Floyd C. Montgomery, Jim Montgomery, Mary Eleanor Martin, Martha Ann Martin, Mildred Bruggenschmidt, and Rita (Jim) Heine.
The funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Friday, February 13 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with same day visitation from 9:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
