Mary Jane Christopher Dittmer, 90, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at her home. She was a professional musician and was known as "Alice Raye". She was born August 3, 1927 in Huntingburg, IN to the late Raymond and Clara Cato Christopher. Mary Jane played piano from the age of seven and the organ from the age of 12. At age 14, she was a church organist, played in her high school band, the orchestra, and was a drum major. She then attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where she was a member of Phi Beta Music Fraternity. She was a member of the Local #1 Musician's Union and Local #35 Musician's Union in Evansville. She later moved to Owensboro in 1952 and played nightly for 30 years in various places. Mary Jane was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Her last 10 years before retiring, she played the piano at Gabe's Tower and Restaurant. She spent her later years enjoying her grandchildren and traveling with her husband of 57 years, David Dittmer, until his death on April 5, 2005. They were high school sweethearts.
Mary Jane is survived by her daughter, Connie Bolton and husband Jim of Kansas City, Missouri, her son, Dennis Dittmer of Owensboro, and five grandchildren, Chris, Natalie, Ann, Dusty, and Sarah.
Services will be private and she will be interred in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
