Mary Ruth McMahan Cilia

Mary Ruth McMahan Cilia, 92, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at her home. Born November 19, 1918, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Esther Jolly McMahan; was retired from General Electric where she worked for 29 years; and was a charter member of Immaculate Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Maceo Golden Years Quilters, the Owensboro Quilters Guild, and the Post 696 VFW Auxiliary and the D.A.V. Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling on the G.E. Bowling League and loved gardening and working in her flower beds. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Joelene Cilia; a sister, Martine Newcomb; and brothers, William McMahan, George McMahan, Vernon McMahan, and Melvin McMahan.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years whom she met while working at the Naval Ordinance Plant in Louisville during World War II, Joseph Cilia; a son, Tony Cilia and his wife Kathy of Owensboro; a daughter, Paula Annin and her husband, Phillip, of Owensboro; grandchildren, Kelly Annin Schroeder of Texas and James Annin of Owensboro; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Anderson of Oregon, Jacqueline Annin of Owensboro, and Koa and Kalani Schroeder of Texas; sisters, Dorothy Nuckols and Bonnie Snyder of Owensboro and Shirley Young of Lewisport; and a brother, Donnie Joe McMahan of Utica.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at Immaculate Catholic Church with Father Tony Jones officiating followed by entombment in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday and after 8:30 a.m. on Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where prayers will be at 5:30 p.m.on Thursday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the local chapter of the American Red Cross, Hospice of Western Kentucky, or Owensboro Catholic Education Fund.
