Mary Cecelia Wink Castlen Cecil, 83, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at the Hillcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born September 16, 1924 in Owensboro, she was the daughter of the late William and Cecelia Feurst Wink and was a member of St. Pius Tenth Catholic Church where she was a member of the church choir and the Legion of Mary. Mrs. Cecil had worked at Glenmore Distillery, was a secretary for United Steel Workers Local 7325 and had volunteered at the Daviess County Hospital. She lived most of her life and raised her family in Thruston and had worked at the Lockhart voting precinct during several elections where she enjoyed meeting and talking with the voters. She was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Robert Castlen on February 16, 1971, her second husband, Clem Cecil on August 17, 2004, brothers, Mike Wink, George Wink, and James Wink, and sisters, Helen Wink, Ann Cecil, and Margaret Gesser Bennett.
Survivors are daughters and spouses, Caroline and Ronal Brown of Beaver Dam, Mary Ann and John McKinney of Richmond, KY; sons and spouses, Robert Earl and Peggy (Franey) Castlen of Lewisport, William Sherill and Julie (Head) Castlen of Maceo, Donald Lee and Sandy (Johnson) Castlen of Knottsville, and Timothy Martin and Debbie (Young) Castlen of Maceo; step-daughters and spouses, Sister Ann Patrice Cecil, Dorothy and Doug Hood, Joann and Mickey Greene, Rose Mary and Buddy Sharp, and Teresa and Jeff Gray; step-sons and spouses, Thomas and Mary (Dehart) Cecil, Joe and Diann (Meredith) Cecil, Donald and Charlotte (Schrecker) Cecil, and Billy Cecil; grandchildren and spouses, Shelly (Castlen) Orth, Shane Castlen, Kevin and Bobbie (Wright) Castlen, Breanna (Castlen) and Brent Dant, Brandon Castlen, Kimberly (Brown) and Danny Smiley, Robert and Patricia (Vance) Brown, Roger McKinney, Eric Castlen, Carrie Castlen, and Sarah Castlen; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Tyler Orth, Hayden, Bradyn, and Kaylie Dant, Laura Smiley, and Makenzie Brown; 29 step-grandchildren; 35 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Bertha Wink Young of Browns Valley; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mrs. Cecil's life will begin with visitation at Glenn Funeral Home from 2-8 P.M. on Sunday and from 9 A.M. till Noon on Monday. Prayers will be at 6 P.M. on Sunday. The funeral mass will be at 1 P.M. Monday, January 28 at St. Pius Tenth Catholic Church with Father Richard Meredith officiating followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Shane, Kevin, Brandon, and Eric Castlen, Robert Brown, and Roger McKinney.
