Mary Ignatius Byrne

Sister Mary Ignatius Byrne of the Sorrowful Mother, Carmelite Sister of the Divine Heart of Jesus, died February 1, 2012 at the Carmel Home. She was born on April 23, 1930 in Stanley, Kentucky to the late Sylvester Ignatius Byrne and Mary Ethel Murphy Byrne. Her first religious profession of vows took place on July 2, 1950 in Wauwatosa, Wi and she served in Wisconsin, Missouri and Kentucky. She was also preceded in death by her step-father, Everett Russell, two brothers, Louis Alexander Byrne, and Martin Patrick Byrne and by three sisters, Mary Lucy Byrne, Marie Theresa McLeod and Lena Rose Medley.

Survivors include her brother, Stephen Ignatius Byrne (Shelia) of Owensboro; sisters, Martha Pendleton (Kenneth) of Owensboro, Mildred Bernadine Dockemeyer (Robert) of Kokomo, IN, Connie Elizabeth McKay (Ronald) of South Bend, IN, and Stella Frances Kaelin of Owensboro; one uncle, Joseph Robert Murphy of Owensboro; 15 nephews and 18 nieces; and her Carmelite Sisters in Religion.

The Holy Mass of Christian Burial is at noon Saturday at the Carmel Home Chapel.

Visitation is from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at the Carmel Home Chapel with prayers at 7 p.m. and Saturday after 10:30 a.m.

Burial is in the Carmelite Sister's Cemetery in Kirkwood, Missouri, following the Community Holy Mass of Christian Burial at the Provincial Mother House Chapel. Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Holy Masses or donations to the Carmel Home Building Fund, 2501 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303
