Mary Janette Bowling

Sister Mary Janette Bowling, 83, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, of Maple Mount, KY, died October 8, 2001, at Mount Saint Joseph Motherhouse. She was in her 65th year of religious life; she entered the Ursuline community August 14, 1936. She was a native of New Haven, KY.

Survivors include four brothers, Rev. Robert A. Bowling, of Reno, Nevada, Rev. George Bowling of Louisville, KY, Martin J. and William P. Bowling, both of New Haven, KY; two sisters, Marietta Bowling Blandford and Mary Louise Bowling, both of Louisville, KY.

Her ministry included St. Mary Magdalene School, Sorgho and St. Pius X School, Owensboro (principal). From 1968-1984, she was Director of Religious Education at Fort Knox. She conducted teacher training workshops at military posts throughout the United States and in Germany. She retired to the Motherhouse in 1997.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, at Mount Saint Joseph Chapel, Maple Mount, KY. Burial will be in the convent cemetery at Maple Mount. Visitation is after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, in the Mount Saint Joseph Chapel. A wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, also in the chapel. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gifts of memory of Sister Mary Janette Bowling may take the form of donations to the ministries of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph.
