Mary Comtess Birk

Mrs. Mary Birk, 87, of 1430 Frederica Street, Owensboro, died Monday, March 05, 2007, at the Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born January 4, 1920 to the late Peter J. and Mary Elizabeth Comtess in Scranton, PA. She worked as Executive Assistant at the Family Y and assisted her husband with their farm in Stanley, Kentucky.

Mrs. Birk attended St. Stephens Cathedral. She enjoyed collecting recipe books and cooking, as well doing handicrafts and crossword puzzles. During the past several years, Mrs. Birk resided at Heritage Place Assisted Living Center, and very much appreciated the support of her caregivers. She was also especially grateful for the support provided her by family, Bill Stevens, and Jane Stevenson.

Mrs. Birk was preceded in death by her husband, George Edward Birk, on November 20, 1993.
Survivors include her son, Robert P. Range and his wife, Stacy of Westlake, OH; three grandsons, John, Christopher and Robert H. Range; one sister, Kay Dannals and her husband, Harry of Charlottesville, VA.

Services will be 11:30 AM Friday, March 9, at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 8th and after 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen Cathedral.
