Mary Rose OFlynn Barr

Mary Rose OFlynn Barr, 91, of 2031 Lexington Avenue, Owensboro, died Saturday, October 29, 2005 at her home. She was born in Owensboro on November 20, 1913, to the late Jay Hardy OFlynn, Sr. and Stella Ambrose OFlynn. She was a life long member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Mary Lou Phillips Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the Cotillion Club, which later became the Junior League and a member of the Womens Guild, formerly the Hospital Guild. She was active in Girl Scouts for many years and served as the first Commissioner of the Owensboro Girl Scout Council. She was the Executive Director of the Girls Club (Girls Inc.). She was a member of the Marlin Masters Swim Team and at the age of 88 set a Kentucky state record in the 50 meter freestyle, the fastest time in the United States in her age group. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, attending the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra and working in her rose garden. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family at cookouts and other gatherings, and took great pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, John Fletcher Barr III and his wife Kathy; a daughter, Mary OFlynn Barr Cabell and her husband Steve, all of Owensboro; her grandchildren, Lisa Barr Ebelhar Kennedy and her husband Ray, John Fletcher Barr IV and his wife Leigh, all of Owensboro; Meredith Glenn Cabell of San Diego, CA and Stephen Carrington Cabell of Philadelphia, PA; her great-grandchildren, Dusty Ebelhar, Samuel Ebelhar and John Fletcher Barr V of Owensboro; her brother, Jay Hardy OFlynn, Jr. and her sister JoAnn OFlynn Gipe, both of Owensboro.

Services will be 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, at Glenn Funeral Home, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday, and after 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
