Marvin Powers Nunley

Marvin Powers Nunley was born June 29, 1941, in Owensboro, Kentucky and passed away May 22, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by father, Marvin Fitzgerald Nunley; mother, Robbie Whitmer Nuckols and stepfather, Stuart Crowe Nuckols.

Marvin practiced law for over 45 years. He received his undergraduate degree from University of Tennessee and earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University. Marvin was a partner with the McCarroll, Nunley and Hartz law firm. He was admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit in 1970. He served as U.S. Magistrate Judge, United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky from 1975-1983. In 1986, he was admitted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He served as President of the Daviess County Bar Association in 1988. He was appointed a temporary Justice for the Kentucky Supreme Court in 2008. Additionally, he was a member of the Defense Research Institute and the Kentucky Defense Council.

A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, he served on the vestry and as Senior Warden; and as a Lay Eucharist Minister.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah May Nunley; daughter, Holly Nunley Williams (Greg); sons, Marvin Bryan Nunley (Stacy) and Benjamin Powers Nunley (Sarah); brother, Nathan Samuel Nunley (Suzette); grandchildren, Jonathon Powers Nunley, Jordan Leigh Williams, Blake Thomas Williams, Nicholas Bryan Nunley, Catherine Lynn Nunley, Mary Elizabeth Nunley, Abigail Alexandra Nunley and Benjamin Powers Nunley II; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Trinity Episcopal Church. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church. Entombment will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
