Marvin Wayne Hines, 73, of Philpot, Kentucky, died, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born in Owensboro and was the son of the late Pearl and C.M. "Chetty" Hines. He never met a stranger, was always optimistic, even under the most adverse conditions, and had a great sense of humor. He was the owner of numerous business ventures during his life, the most recent of which was German Roasted Nuts. Like his father before him, he never retired, insisting that hard work and being passionate about what you do every day always pays off. He enjoyed politics, was a devoted Democrat and worked tirelessly to help elect Lt. Gov. Thelma Stovall, Gov. Martha Layne Collins and Gov. Wallace Wilkinson, among others. He was a Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed gardening, but very much disliked worms in his sweet corn. "Pappaw Waynie" enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, all of whom adored him. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Wayne Hines in 1964.
Mr. Hines is survived by his wife, Linda Hines; his two sons, Robert Hines and his wife Patty, of Philpot and Barry and his wife Missy, of Goshen, KY; and his grandchildren, Samantha Hines, Cassie Hines, Bill Hines, Jon Hines, and Rob Hines.
The funeral service for Mr. Hines, officiated by the Rev. Carson Bevil, will be at 12:00 noon Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The American Heart Association or Riley Childrens Hospital in Indianapolis.
