Marvin Wilbur Dant

Marvin Wilbur Dant, 79, of Calhoun, died Monday September 8, 2014 at Twin Rivers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on July 13, 1935 in Elba, Kentucky to the late Joseph E. and Ruby Dant. Marvin was married to Shirlene Bivins Dant on August 21, 1954. He worked for CAN-TEX and Harkin Oil Company before becoming a self-employed farmer. Marvin was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in St. Joseph. He enjoyed raising black angus cattle, talking politics to anyone who would listen, and spending time with his grand and great grandchildren.

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Shirlene and his siblings, J.W. Dant, Myrtle Thompson, Ella Farmer, and Carroll Dant.

Survivors include his son, Eddie Dant (Barbara) of Elba; daughter, Justine Wiggins (Keith) of Elba; 7 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; a brother, L.V. Dant of Beech Grove; and a sister, Patty Peacock of Elba.

Services will be noon Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at St. Benedict Cemetery in Beech Grove, Ky. Visitation will be from 4 to 8PM Wednesday with prayers at 6PM and again Thursday from 10AM until the time of service at the funeral home.

The Marvin W. Dant family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the St. Benedict Cemetery Fund c/o Sebastian Catholic Church; 180 Kentucky 136 West, Calhoun, Ky 42327 and the Alzheimer Association.
