Dr. Martye Leanne Faulkner, 41, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born on September 4, 1971 in Portland, TN. Leanne was a Math Professor and head of the Math Dept at Kentucky Wesleyan College for the past 12 years and was a member of Owensboro Christian Church. She graduated 3rd in her class from Portland High School in 1989, received her Bachelor's degree and then her Master's degree in 1995 from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, TN, and received her doctorate from the University of Kentucky in 1998. She started her teaching as Math Professor at Brescia University for a year, then taught at Western Ky. University for a year, and then taught at Ohio Co. High School for a year before joining the staff at Kentucky Wesleyan College. Leanne is Auxilliary President of the Owensboro Gideons East Camp and has been Area 3 Director for the Ky. State Gideons Association. She enjoyed camping, fishing, vegetable gardening, sewing, and needlepoint. She also enjoyed watching various sports, and was an avid reader and musician playing the flute, piano, and organ. She was a member of the Kentucky Chapter of the Mathematical Association of America having held several offices. She also enjoyed taking math students to various conferences.
Surviving are her husband of 16 years, Brian T. Faulkner, her children, Tristen and Jordan Faulkner, her parents, Linda Link of Orlinda, TN and Leroy Link of Portland, TN, a brother, David (Diana) Dixon of Orlinda, and two nieces, Makayla and Abigail Dixon, both of Orlinda.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 3, at Owensboro Christian Church. Graveside services will be at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at Williams Chapel Cemetery in Robertson Co., TN. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9:00 A.M. Tuesday at Owensboro Christian Church.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Dr. Leanne Faulkner to the Gideons International or to Kentucky Wesleyan College for the General Scholarship Fund. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.glennfuneralhome.com.
