Martine Bristow

January 28, 1926 — August 24, 2009

Martine Bristow, 82, of Owensboro, Kentucky, died Monday, August 24, 2009, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church where she ran the nursery for many years. Mrs. Bristow retired from the City School System after working at Lincoln and Foust Elementary Schools in the cafeteria. After the loss of her son, Gary in 1974 she began attending a Compassionate Friends group in Evansville, IN, she then began a chapter of Compassionate Friends in Owensboro to help others cope with the loss of a child. She loved animals, always had a dog and was a caregiver to all neighborhood cats. A wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother she enjoyed time spent with her family. Mrs. Bristow was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Bristow in 2005, a son, Gary "Bo Bo" Bristow in 1974, parents, Lorenzo and Dora Evans Jones, and her siblings, Corrine Livers, Christine Milam and Bill Jones.

Survivors include her son, Tom Bristow and his wife Karen of Owensboro; grandchildren, Laura Beth Bristow of Owensboro and Andrew Bristow and his fiance Kendra Hawkins of Nashville; and three great-grandchildren, Trevor, Queelyn Coriana and Jonathan.

Services will be held at Noon on Thursday in the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice.
