Martha T. Smith

Martha T. Smith, 95, of Owensboro, entered into the presence of her Lord on January 22, 2025. She was born in Monroe County on November 29, 1929, to the late Tommie and Bonnie Tooley Thompson.

Martha began her career at General Electric, first working on vacuum tubes before transitioning to small motors. She eventually retired from GE. Alongside her professional career, she also supported her husband, Leamon Smith, on their family farm.

A devoted Baptist, Martha dedicated her time to numerous church roles, ranging from youth ministry to office work, and was a faithful member of Third Baptist Church. She was also honored as a Kentucky Colonel and held memberships in the Purple Heart Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society.

Family was Martha’s greatest joy. She treated her nieces and nephews like her own children and cherished their visits to the farm, where she delighted them with her famous corn muffins and chocolate pie. So deep was her affection that her nieces and nephews often considered her a second mother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Leamon Smith, as well as her siblings, George, Joe, and Florence Thompson. 

She is survived by her brother, Lawrence Thompson, along with numerous loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The funeral service for Martha Smith will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
