Martha Lee Galloway Mefford, 80, of Owensboro went to be with her Savior on March 26, 2011 after walking with him most of her life. She passed away at home in the loving arms of her family after a brave battle against breast cancer.
Martha was born October 19, 1930 in Daviess County, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Emma G. Galloway. She worked for Texas Gas Transmission and the Owensboro Board of Education and was a devoted member of Buena Vista Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she served as Sunday School teacher, choir member, and WMU leader and Deacon's Wives. One of her joys was making her home a welcoming, warm and inviting place for her family and others.
Martha was married to the love of her life, Durwood Mefford with whom she recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Galloway Saylor.
Surviving along with her husband are daughters, Susan (Mike) Toadvine of Louisville, Joy (David) Malone of Owensboro, and Sandra Jane "Janie" (Jon) Wilson of Owensboro; grandchildren, Chris (Jennifer) Toadvine of Louisville, Benjamin (Candice) Toadvine of Finchville, Katie (Mark) Redfern of Owensboro, Emily Malone of Owensboro, and Calvin Malone of Nashville; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Buena Vista Baptist Church with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and from 10 a.m. till 10:45 a.m. on Thursday morning at Buena Vista Baptist Church.
