Martha Embry, 82 of 117 E. 8th Street, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2005. Born August 29, 1922 in Brandenburg, to Edward and Emily Ann Roberts, when she was six years old the family moved to Cloverport, Ky. She graduated from Frederick Fraze High School and during WWII operated the family newspaper, The Breckenridge Banner in Hardinsburg while her husband served in the Navy in the Pacific.
After moving to Owensboro she managed the Top Value Stamp Store and later worked at the Messenger-Inquirer Advertising Department for 18 years until her retirement. She then worked at S. W. Andersons until its closing. Following the closing, each Tuesday a group of the ladies continued a tradition of having lunch and shopping until the last couple of years. Martha loved people, gave everyone a willing ear, and you could not be in her home without being fed, nor leave empty handed. She was a member of Third Baptist Church, and its Bota Vita Sunday School Class, whose members lovingly visited and cared for her during her long illness.
Survivors include her daughter, Ondra Edds and her husband David, and
her son Dusty Embry and his wife Donna, both of Owensboro, three grandchildren, David Edds, Jr. and his wife Sandy, and Melissa Boarman and her husband David, both of Owensboro, and Stephen Edds and his wife Erin, of Indianapolis, and
one darling redheaded great-grand daughter, Madi Boarman, of Owensboro.
Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be after 1:00 P.M. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice, 723 Harvard Dr., Owensboro, KY 42301.
