Martha Jean York Alford

Martha Jean York Alford, 90, of Owensboro, formerly of Panther, passed away on Tuesday May 28, 2024, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.  She was born August 8, 1933 in Calhoun, daughter of the late William Gates and Roberta Lee King York.  Martha grew up in Calhoun and graduated from Calhoun High School in 1951.  She worked at Grant Jewelers and at Kentuckiana Livestock Market, and was a Kentucky Colonel.  For several years, she and her husband were involved with the Owensboro Habitat for Humanity and were the sponsors of one house.  Martha was married to Marion Alton “Hotshot” Alford for 58 years until his death on April 5, 2010.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, William Lee York.

 Martha professed her faith in Christ at an early age and throughout her life was a member of Calhoun Christian Church, and Century Christian Church and First Christian Church, both of Owensboro.  She enjoyed cooking and was an excellent candy maker.  She loved and was devoted to her family and friends and was loved and respected by all who knew her.

 Surviving are nieces and nephews, Yvonne York Morley (Joe) of Danville, Joseph Lee York of Atlanta, Georgia, Fred Reeves (Anna Lois) of Owensboro, and Lila Ann Allen of Evansville; great nieces and nephews, McCallum Morley, Gates York, Kathryn York, Lisa Reeves, Andrea Lanham, Penny Vickers, Gwen Allen, Terry Pinkston, Bobbie Gail Woosley, Teena Allen , and Shirlene McLimore; and several great great nieces and nephews.  

 Funeral services for Martha will be 2 PM Friday, May 31, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory officiated by Rev. Jim Westmoreland.   Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of the service Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
