Mark Young, 44, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his family after a life-long battle with cancer. Mark was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma at St. Jude's Children's Hospital at nine years of age. With much courage and determination and help from his friends, he overcame cancer and was in remission. Mark was known by the nurses and staff at St. Jude's as "the miracle child" for defying the odds and surviving the cancer. He never lost his sense of humor and ability to make others laugh despite his difficult circumstances and ongoing complications from the cancer.
Mark loved watching U.K. basketball and his favorite professional teams were the Miami Dolphins and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He loved to hunt and fish and he dearly loved Calvin, his faithful dog that was more like a friend. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, where he found great faith, hope, and peace.
His presense will be sadly missed by those he leaves behind, which include his mother, Regina "Peggy" Young, his sisters, Regina Hagan and husband Gary, Cindy Bertram and husband Kenny, a sister-in-law, Vickie Young, and three brothers, Larry Young, Mike Young and wife Karen, and Greg Young. Mark will be warmly greeted by the family that has passed before him, which include his father, Ernest "Bub" Young, and his older brother, Ernie Young. He is also leaving behind, many nieces, nephews, and friends that will sorely miss his kind nature and fun-loving humor. Mark goes on to be with the Lord, as his long battle is finally over. Although he leaves behind a vacancy, his family is at peace knowing his suffering is finally at an end and he is resting in the arms of his father, brother, and his Lord.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 13, at Precious Blood Catholic Church with burial following in St. Peter's Cemetery in Stanley. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M.
