Mark Patrick Thielen

Mark Patrick Thielen, age 56, of Lewisport passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born in Owensboro on September 28, 1956 to Patrick and Elnor Hayden Thielen.

He is preceded in death by his father, Pat Thielen and his brother, Jim Thielen.

Mark graduated from Bishop Chatard High School, Indianapolis IN, in 1975 and worked for Texas Gas for 28 years, retiring in 2011. He was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus in Bedford, IN; achieving the rank of 3rd Degree. He was an avid motorcyclist and earned the nickname "Scooter" by his co-workers because of his determination to ride his bike in spite of single digit temperatures in winter. He enjoyed fishing and took several fishing trips to Canada and Michigan. Mark also enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, golfing and boating with friends and family on Kentucky Lake. He was a lighthearted, friendly likable man who seldom met a stranger. His main priority in life was spending quality time with his family and friends. He was a caring and unselfish person, with a great sense of humor and the ability to make others laugh.

Surviving is his wife, Karen Keller Thielen; his mother Elnor Hayden Thielen, his two children; Patrick Thielen and Sara Thielen, all of Owensboro; his sister, Laurie Thielen Wilson and husband Steve of Benton, KY; his brother, Wayne Thielen and wife Laura of Louisville; three nephews, Landon Wilson and wife Jennifer of Benton, KY, Zachary Thielen of Louisville, Cory Thielen and Jordan Jones of Noblesville; two nieces, Mackenzie Wilson and Cassidy Thielen both of Louisville.

A mass will be celebrated at 10 AM this Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Brad Whistle as celebrant. Visitation will be held at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory on Thursday from 2-8 PM and after 8:30 AM on Friday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (research for gallbladder cancer) and the Hospice of Western Kentucky.
