Mark Anthony Gabis

Mark A. Gabis, 64, of Owensboro, died Monday, November 12, 2012, at his residence. Mark was born in Steubenville, Ohio, to the late Anthony and Agnes Yoka Gabis. He was President and CEO of Daymar Colleges Group, Daymar College and Daymar Institute from March 17, 1995. Prior to his association with Daymar College he served his country as a member of the United States Army and the Army Reserve, was an attorney in Newport, KY, and was Vice President of Cincom Systems, Inc in Cincinnati. He was a member of the Ohio and the Kentucky Bar Association. Mark was a member of the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities, of the Kentucky Association of Career Colleges and Schools, where he served as President from 2006-2010, served on the Board of Directors of Taltree Arboretum in Valparaiso, IN, was chair of the Owensboro-Daviess County Chamber of Commerce Chamber's Internet Task Force and as chair of their E-Commerce Committee, was appointed to the Kentucky State Board for Proprietary Education by Governor Paul Patton, and was a member of both the Tennessee Association of Independent Colleges where he served as President from 2002-2005 and of the Business Education Research Associates, Inc, where he currently served as President. Under Mark's guidance Daymar College was nominated as Small Business of the Year in 2000 by the Owensboro-Daviess County Chamber of Commerce, that same year Mark was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year by the chamber. He is a man who changes lives.

Mark was also preceded in death by his brother, Matthew A. Gabis.

Survivors include his wife Terrie L. Gabis; sons Edward Earl "Ed" Gabis and his wife Julie of LaGrange, KY, Gregory Mark "Greg" Gabis and his wife Wendy of Jackson, OH; brothers, Damien A. Gabis (Rita) of Valparaiso, IN, Joseph A. Gabis (Barbara) of Wheeling, WV, Jerome A. Gabis (Carol) of Cincinnati, OH, Paul A. Gabis (Linda) of Cold Springs, KY, and John A. Gabis (Janine) of Chillicothe, OH; sisters, Mary Lou Deku (Robert) of Toronto, OH and Margaret Ann Parker (Paul) of Colorado Springs, CO; exchange student and family member, Holger M. Wirtz (Antonieta) Neuss, Germany; grandchildren, Christopher Gabis, Ellen Gabis, Lara Gabis, Nicholas Gabis, Trey Eisnaugle, Ethan Eisnaugle, Leonardo Wirtz, and Vincent Wirtz.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the RiverPark Center. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 8:30 a.m. on Friday at the RiverPark Center.
