Marjorie F. Richmond, 102, of 3362 Buckland Square died Tuesday, August 25, 2009. She was born January 14, 1907, in Harrison County, Kentucky to the late Robert W. and Russie Levy Field. Mrs. Richmond graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College when it was located in Winchester, Kentucky and received a master's degree in library science from Columbia University in New York. She was the oldest member of Mount Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and had served many years as a Sunday school teacher. On May 18, 1930, she was married to E.W. Richmond, former Daviess County Superintendent and Kentucky State Senator, who preceded her in death in 1987. For 27 years, Mrs. Richmond taught in the Daviess County School System at Daviess County High School as librarian and at Snyder Elementary School as a teacher, prior to that she had taught in Harrison County and Ohio County. Following her retirement she served for many years as a reader, making audio recordings for the visually impaired.
Mrs. Richmond had a life-long commitment to education and reading with interests in various wide-ranging topics. After moving to Heritage Place in 2001, she began participating in Brescia University's Contemporary Women's Program and continued until recently.
She is survived by her nephew and his wife, Scott and Diane Richmond of Owensboro, two great nieces, Corree Richmond Anness of Lexington and Rebecca Richmond of Cincinnati, OH; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Richmond Harrison of Daviess County.
Services will be private. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Daviess County Public Library or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
