Mary Rita "Marita" Mattingly Englert, 82, of Owensboro died peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2017, at The Heartford House with her family at her side. She was born July 5, 1935, to the late Charles Thomas and Mary Margaret (Hughes) Mattingly in Lebanon, Kentucky. A member of the Roman Catholic Church, Marita graduated from Brescia College and continued her higher education at UK, WKU, and MTSU. Marita was a passionate and dedicated teacher in both private and public schools in Lexington KY, Smyrna TN, and Owensboro KY.
She was preceded in death by infant son, Thomas D. Englert, Jr., and son, Gregory A. Englert, Sr., as well as brothers, J. Hughes, Harold Louis, William R., J. Thomas, J. Malcolm, and sister Martha A. Boone.
Marita is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Thomas D. Englert; a son, J. Eric Englert (Chris); a daughter, Donna M. Englert Ferguson (Jeff); a granddaughter Holly A. Ferguson Powers (Brad) and great grandchildren, Kaytlin Powers, Elizabeth Goodman and Taylor Powers; a daughter-in-law, Karen L. Englert, and grandson Gregory A. Englert, Jr. (Robin); sister Dorothy L. Edelen, brother C. Donald Mattingly (JoAnn), sisters-in-law Kate Mattingly and Margaret Mattingly, and many cherished family members and friends.
Family, friends, learning, teaching, reading and sewing were Marita's lifelong joys. She was never happier than when spending time with family and friends, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the lights of her life.
