Marion Carter Roach, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2016 while in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Mr. Roach passed calmly from this world while expressing and exemplifying strong faith and trust in his Creator and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. He left his family and his loving church family a legacy of love.
Born January 14, 1927, the fifth child and only son of seven children to the late Charles Marion and Lillie Whitaker Roach in Ohio County, KY. Mr. Roach attended Greer Elementary School and Whitesville High School until he was drafted in 1945 during WWII. He proudly joined the army at the age of 18 even though as the only son, he could have been exempted. During his time in the service, as part of the occupation force of Japan, he learned to speak and sing many Japanese songs with which he used later in life to entertain his children and grandchildren. Carter married the love of his life, Billie Joyce Postlewaite on April 7, 1951 and celebrated their 65th anniversary this year. Mr. Roach worked for 30 years at V.E. Anderson's, then drove a coal truck until he retired. He coached Little League baseball at Eastern Little League for many years. He loved fishing, playing pool at the E. Mundy Center and singing gospel songs.
Mr. Roach is preceded in death by sisters, Ozona Russelburg, Oma C. Ralph and Icy Lincoln Onstott.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Postlewaite Roach; five children, Mickey Roach (Mary), Pamela White (Ted), Jeff Roach (Sandy), all of Owensboro, Terry Roach of Tall Timbers, MD, and Brooks Roach (Shannon) of Henderson; ten grandchildren, Mick Roach, Amber Cook, Ben Roach, Nick Roach, Whitney Roach, Hannah Roach, Jarred Roach, Javan Roach, Kara Roach, and Garrett Roach; seven great-grandchildren (one of whom is due in October); sister, Vena Gilbert of Owensboro; and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Entombment will follow at Christ Chapel in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. -7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and after 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
