Marion L. Jones

Marion L. "Sonny" Jones, 71, of 237 Redbud Rd., passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born June 14, 1938 in Evansville to the late Vernon E. and Dorothy Pemberton Jones. He was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and was retired after 34 years as a route salesman for the Pepsi-Cola Co. He was a member of Parrish Ave. Baptist Church and former member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Nascar, and Dallas Cowboys football. He also bowled for many years in leagues at Diamond Lanes. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Corporal Vernon Douglas Jones on Sept. 9, 1968 and a sister Shirley Darlene Phillips.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Rose Westerfield Jones, a son James William "Chipper" Wathen of Owensboro, a daughter Rose Michelle "Josie" Wathen of Beaver Dam, several grandchildren, two brothers, David Jones and wife Pat of Corpus Christy, TX and Joe Jones and wife Mona of Philpot, three sisters, Dixie Bowlds and husband Gary, Jewell Clark and husband Ronnie, and Bonnie Mayes, all of Owensboro, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 12 Noon Tuesday, July 7, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Franklin Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Monday and after 9:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
