Marion W. Cecil

Marion W. Cecil, 94, of Owensboro, formerly of West Louisville, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018 at the Carmel Home. He was born September 6, 1923 in Daviess Co. to the late Arthur "T. A." and Irene Hite Cecil. Marion was a life-long farmer and dairy farmer and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He had served on the Green River Electric Corp. board for 26 years and 12 of those years as the Secretary/Treasurer following his father who was one of the founding members. He was designated board member emeritus in 1996 and served in that capacity through consolidation to the present. He represented GREC on the Big Rivers Electric board for 10 years from 1985 until 1995 and had been a member of the American Dairymen's Association. Marion was a trained and certified electrician and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, square dancing and playing Pedro* with his wife Maxine, family, and friends, watching U.K. basketball, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always assured his family, "Everything will be OK".

Marion was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Maxine Riney Cecil on July 4, 2008, a brother, Martin Cecil, and a sister, Winnie Cecil Riney.

Surviving are four sons, Bill (Carol) Cecil, David (Rose Marie) Cecil, and Pat (Sherry) Cecil, all of Owensboro, and Mike (Tracy) Cecil of West Louisville, four daughters, Mary (Clyde) Fogle, Janice (John) Taul, and Betty (Tony) Wallace, all of Owensboro, and Alice (Jerry) Biscopink of Loveland, Ohio, 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, a brother, Tommy Cecil of Owensboro, and a sister, Sister Mary Irene Cecil, O.S.U. of Mt. St. Joseph.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 5, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with burial following in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday with prayers at 6:00 P.M. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and from 9:30-11:00 A.M. Monday at St. Alphonsus Church.

The family would like to thank the Sisters and all the staff at the Carmel Home for the love and care they provided Mr. Cecil for the past eight years.
