Marilyn Kay ( Rettig ) Vessels, 59, of 232 Holmes Road, Owensboro, died Monday, August 21, 2006 at Owensboro Medical Health System. Marilyn was born and raised in Warrenton, Indiana, daughter of the late Pete and Victoria (Zenthofer) Rettig. She was a 1965 graduate of Mater Dei High School. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Owensboro where she was a eucharistic minister, hospitality minister, adoration minister, and along with her husband, an RCIA sponsor. She attended all Catholic High and Kentucky Wesleyan football and basketball games, enjoyed car racing, gardening, and growing flowers. She was very involved in family functions, loved dogs and trained and showed them. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Ben Vessels of Owensboro, a son and daughter in law, Matt and Laura Lee Vessels of Uniontown, Kentucky, a daughter Andrea Vessels of Owenboro, grandson Zane Quinn of Uniontown, and was expecting another grandchild in September. Also surviving are two brothers, Bill Rettig and wife Carol of Pahrump, Nevada, Joe Rettig and wife Barb of Cincinatti, Ohio, a sister Rita Elpers and husband Gene of Warrenton, Indiana, a uncle, Charlie Zenthofer of Evansville, Indiana, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with the Rev. John Meredith officiating. Visitation will from 2 to 8 p.m. with prayers at 6 p.m. and Wednesday after 9 a.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may thake the form of donation to Our Lady of Lourdes, Catholic High Athletics or Kentucky Wesleyan Athletics.
