Marie Verbaas Purdy

January 19, 1904 — February 4, 2002

Marie Verbaas Purdy, 98 formerly of 1803 Lexington Avenue, died Monday, February 4, 2002 at Hillcrest Nursing Center. Her husband, Charles E. Purdy, died in 1961.

The Daviess County native belonged to St. John United Methodist Church, was a graduate of Western Kentucky State Teachers College, retired from the Owensboro Board of Education, having taught at Wilson, Longfellow, and Washington schools, had been a board member of the Mary Kendall Home and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and quilting.

Survivors include three sons, David Purdy and Clifford Purdy of Owensboro and Charles E. Purdy of Sarasota, Fl, four grandchildren, 2 great-grandchild, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Services are at 11:30 Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Entombment will be in Christ Chapel Mausoleum at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home.
