Maria Theresa Burgess, 69, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017 at her home in Philpot while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Born in Washington, D.C., Maria was a daughter of the late Col. Walter L. and Theresa Beck Carr. A registered nurse with a bachelor degree from the University of Evansville, her career was committed to providing acute care for patients in emergency rooms and intensive care units. She was a member of Owensboro Christian Church. Her enjoyments included motorcycles, roses, and birds; especially birds. She loved animals of all kinds but birds were her passion. A devoted raptor rehabilitator, it wasn't particularly unusual when visiting her home to find baby hawks or kestrels perched in the warmth above her clothes dryer.
Maria is survived by her husband of 46 years as of March 14, Stanton E. "Stan" Burgess; her daughter Misty Michelle Burgess; her brother Walter Carr; her half-brother Byron Carr; and her half-sister Nica Clipp.
The service for Maria will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 8:30 a.m. Friday. Private burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Gideons International Messages of condolence may be shared at www.glenncares.com.
