Marguerite Elaine Maertz (nee' Nickel), 77, of Owensboro passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2009. Born in Independence, KS on December 19, 1931 to Walter and Leola Nickel (nee' Wiechert), Marge lived in Joplin, MO until 1951, when she attended St. John's College and met her husband, Ralph, in Winfield, KS. They married at Camp Chaffey in Ft. Smith, AR, on June 26, 1953 and were married 55 years. The had one daughter, Susan. Moving to Owensboro in 1966 and attending Peace Lutheran Church, Marge became a founder and teacher of Peace Lutheran Preschool. In addition to teaching, Marge also worked in accounting and business management for Allis Chalmers, Jagoe's, and Reids'. She loved animals, bowling, gardening, and her family.
Preceded in death by brothers, Wallace and Robert Nickel, sister, Mildred Kile, and sister-in-law, Julie Nickel, Marge is survived by her husband, Ralph, her daughter, Susan, brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Marian Nickel of Richardson, TX, and brother-in-law, Jack Kile of Vacaville, CA, and she is loved, remembered and missed by many other family members and friends.
Services will be held March 27, 2009 at Peace Lutheran Church, 2200 Carter Rd., Owensboro, with visitation from noon to until 2 p.m., with memorial service to follow. Burial will be at a later date at Elmwood Cemetery. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
