Margie Hoagland King Maxwell

Margie Hoagland King Maxwell, 100, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday October 16, 2024, at the Heartford House while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born May 24, 1924, in Ohio County, to the late Hobert and Ova Mae Mosley Hoagland. Margie moved to Evansville, Indiana right out of high school and worked as an electric arc welder on the Landing Ship Tanks (LST) during World War II. She later met and married Ernest King whom she spent forty-six years and five months until his death in 1992. She was a hairdresser for thirty-three years having owned and operated Crown III Beauty Salon for several years before retiring in 1984. After retirement she moved to Owensboro to be closer to her family. She was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church where she met Paul Maxwell Sr. whom she married in 1996.

She loved nature, beautiful sunsets, flowers and birds, especially hummingbirds. Also loved to travel, spend time with her family, and watch UK basketball.

Along with her parents, Hobert and Ova Mae Mosley Hoagland; she is also preceded in death by two husbands, Ernest King and Paul Maxwell; a brother, John Hoagland; and three sisters, Winnie Lucious, Thelma DePriest, and Edna Wade.

Margie is survived by a brother, Fred (Janet) Hoagland of Lakeland, FL; a sister, Joan Royal of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. Her sons, Tommy (Angie) Maxwell, Joe (Bev) Maxwell and Paul (Becky) Maxwell, Jr.; her daughters, Brenda (Dennis) Davis and Sandy Clark; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and two God Children, Christy Shanks Beard and Brett Shanks of Evansville. 

The funeral service for Margie Maxwell will be at 12 p.m. Monday October 21, 2024, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday and also from 10 until 12 p.m. on Monday. The burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
