Margie Ann Elder

Margie Ann Henze Elder, 89, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, October 14, 2024, at The Heartford House. She was born in Tell City, IN to the late Hugo and Mary Mann Henze. Margie was a dedicated member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and a resident of the Carmel Home since March of 2017. Margie was a loving grandmother who was always there for her family. She dedicated her time to helping her daughters succeed, including assisting each one in making the cheerleading team at Owensboro Catholic High School. Most of all, Margie was a mother, grandmother, friend, and a true fire who brought light to all who knew her.

She also had a deep love for her Shih Tzus, Roxy and Jazzy, who were her constant companions and brought her great joy in life. Margie’s love of vanilla ice cream was well-known, but she always made sure to offer the last scoop to someone else—she never took it for herself, a gesture that perfectly captured her generous spirit.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert “Bob” Elder; granddaughter Chelsey Mudd; sisters Bernadette Everard, Louise Vaught, and Gerri Grass; and brother Buddy Henze.

She is survived by her daughters Diane (Ron) Kolb and Trisha (Steve) Frey, both of Owensboro, and Angie (Hank) Hedges of Wentzville, MO; her grandchildren Chad (Mandy) Mudd, Chase (Emma) Mudd, Tyler (Sarah) Frey, Hayley Frey, Lindsey Hedges, and Alexa Hedges; her great-grandchildren Anna and Ava Mudd, Melody and Julian Frey; and many nieces and nephews.

Now reunited with her beloved husband, they are dancing together once again to their favorite song, “For the Good Times” by Ray Price

Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, October 28 at the Carmel Home. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of the service Monday at the Carmel Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Heartford House, c/o Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301, to the Carmel Home, 2501 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303 (for the loving care they provided Margie in her final years), or to the Owensboro Catholic School System, 1524 W.
