Margaret Drake Parks

Margaret Drake Parks, 92, of Owensboro, formerly of Kettering, Ohio passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Wellington Parc in Owensboro. She was born September 24, 1922 in Winchester, KY, the youngest daughter of the late Vaughn and Margaret Willis Drake. She was a 1940 graduate of Henry Clay High School in Lexington and a 1942 graduate of Bethel Women's College in Hopkinsville with an Associate Arts degree. She then attended the University of Kentucky. Margaret was a faithful follower of Christ and a member of First Baptist Church in Owensboro where she sang in the church choir and senior adult choir. She was a member of the Happy Hearts Sunday School class and active in senior adult activities and the Women's Missions Ministry. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution General Evan Shelby Chapter where she was the chaplain. She loved music and was involved in it throughout her life. She also was a volunteer from 1991-1999 at the Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, OH. She enjoyed traveling and playing mahjongg with friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Frank R. Parks on November 15, 2006 and a daughter-in-law, Georgina Parks on October 16, 2014.

Surviving are two sons, Barry D. (Barby) Parks of Destin, FL and Roger D. Parks of Alexandria, VA, a daughter, Lee (Denny) Waldroup of Owensboro, two granddaughters, Kelly Parks (Bill) Shiell of Tallahassee, FL and Kimberly Parks (Jay) Bischoff of Flower Mound, TX, two grandsons, Andy (Dana) Waldroup of Georgetown, KY and Eric (Joni Beth) Waldroup of Lexington, four great grandsons, Parker and Drake Shiell and Joshua and Matthew Waldroup, five great granddaughters, Autumn and Samantha Bischoff, Maggie and Rosalie Waldroup, and Laurel Waldroup, a brother, Vaughn P. Drake of Lexington, a sister, Nell White Dodd of San Antonio, TX, and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Services will be 12 Noon Friday, November 28, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Graveside services and burial will be in Lexington Cemetery at 12 Noon (E.S.T.) Saturday. Visitation will be after 9:30 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.

The family wishes to express special thanks and appreciation to the staff of Wellington Parc for the gracious and devoted care they provided for Margaret for the past two years.
