Margaret H. Mattingly

Margaret H. Mattingly, 87, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 15, 2012 after a prolonged illness at her home. She was born in Daviess County to the late Sherman A. and Mary Ethel (Knott) Howard of Brown's Valley. She was a lifelong member of St. Stephen Cathedral, where she was a member of the Altar Society, served as an usher and greeter. She also was the recipient of the Sophia Award for volunteerism. She retired from General Electric and a few years after retirement she became a volunteer for the Daniel Pitino Shelter soup kitchen where she worked for many years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, plants, flowers and University of Kentucky basketball. Her husband of 67 years, Delbert Mattingly preceeded her in death in May, 2011, as well as sisters, Elizabeth "Aunt Bibbus" Chissom, Rosalia Harper, Linnie Bowlds and Rita Pisano.
Surviving are her children; Carol Vaughn and Bob Mattingly both of Owensboro, her sister Beatrice "Aunt Bea" Wooldridge, and many nieces and nephews. Ms Margaret needing constant assistance during the last years of her life, was cared for by an amazing and wonderful group of caregivers. Carol and Bob wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to these extraordinary women for their love, care and kindness toward Mom during these difficult times.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with the Rev. John Vaughan officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. with prayers at 7:00 p.m. and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
