Margaret Christina "Christy" Hocker Hall

Margaret Christina "Christy" Hocker Hall, 79, of Owensboro, passed away on June 11, 2026. Christy was born on February 28, 1947, in Owensboro to the late Talmage Edward and Margaret McClanahan Hocker.

Christy's life was rooted in Owensboro, a community she loved deeply. She was a faithful member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, where her faith remained an important part of her life.

Kentucky Wesleyan College gave Christy one of the great blessings of her life when she crossed paths with Harold L. "Sonny" Hall. The two quickly fell for each other, leading to their marriage in 1965. Before Sonny's passing in 2023, they shared 58 years together, and while his obituary described those years as marital bliss with varying degrees of "heavenliness," Christy would likely have agreed, after making a few corrections.

Nothing mattered more to Christy than family. She loved raising her two boys and was fully present in their lives, whether at a swim meet, baseball game, or hockey game. She showed up, cheered loudly, and made sure her boys knew she was in their corner. That same love carried forward to her grandchildren, who filled her with pride and who always knew they had her full support.

For Christy and Sonny, Hilton Head Island became their happy place. They purchased their first home there in 1978, and although they had different homes on the island over the years, they always chose one with a view of the lagoon. Christy often said she loved her view of the lagoon even more than a view of the ocean. They loved hosting friends there, but it was the visits from their children and grandchildren that brought them the greatest joy.

Christy gave freely of herself to her community as well. Kentucky Wesleyan remained close to her heart, and she gave the college what she so often gave the people and places she loved: her time, her eye for detail, and her willingness to help. In 2002, she received Kentucky Wesleyan's Honorary Alumnus Award, recognizing her generous gifts of time and talent to the college. As an interior design specialist, Christy volunteered her professional skills to help design and decorate the president's home and to select colors and furnishings for the Winchester Campus Community Center, and she dedicated many hours of service to the Changing Lives capital campaign and its kickoff event.

Her dedication to young people stood out most at the Cliff Hagan Boys Club, where she served on the Board of Directors, helped plan fundraising events, and became the first woman to serve as president, after previously serving as secretary and vice president. Her investment in their futures eventually extended to the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Christy brought that same energy to many other organizations across her community. She was a founding member and board member of Impact 100, a member of the Women's Guild of Owensboro and the Junior League of Owensboro, and she served on the boards of the Owensboro Daviess County Committee on Aging and the Owensboro Public Schools Foundation for Excellence. She also lent her support to the Goodfellows Club.

Through all of it, her friendships were never far behind. Christy made and kept close friends throughout Owensboro, on Hilton Head Island, and across every chapter of her life, and she treasured them all. Among them was a group from high school affectionately known as "the Mafia," with whom she shared yearly trips, years of stories, and the kind of laughter that only lifelong friends can truly understand. She also delighted in the company of the Wives of Fleming Park.

Christy once jokingly made it known that when her time came, her obituary needed to be better than Sonny's. In keeping with her wishes, every effort has been made, though whether it meets her standard is something only Christy could say.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harold "Sonny" Hall; her brother, David Edward Hocker; her sister, Jane Talmage Hocker Anderson; and her beloved granddogs, Bentley and Lucy.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Todd Hall and his wife Lisa, and Matt Hall, both of Louisville; her grandchildren, Collins, Callie, Bailey, Hayden, and Harrison, all of Louisville; her sister, Patricia Riddle, and her husband, Bill Riddle, of Lexington; her brother-in-law Mike Hall; Gloria McCarty, who was family in every way that mattered and whom Christy lovingly called her "third sister"; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Christy Hall will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Dickinson officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Church. Entombment will follow in Christ Chapel at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
