Margaret "Peggie" Rees Bastin, 81, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born Margaret Rose Rees on November 17, 1936 in Washington, MO the only child of the late Arthur Harold and Dorothy Sterett Rees. Peggie moved to Hancock County, KY in 1941, graduated from Beechmont High School, and took part time classes at KWC and Brescia College. She held several clerical positions; lastly at General Electric where she met her husband. In 1973, she married Bobby James Bastin of Owensboro. Peggie became an active member of Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church where she served in the choir, worship chairperson, and a member of United Methodist Women. She loved American and Kentucky history, especially family research. Peggie was an officer in West Central Kentucky Research Association and served as Regent in Daughters of American Revolution local Evan Shelby Chapter, having proved ten lines of Revolutionary War ancestors. She carried on her father's love of river history by giving steamboat programs in the area. Peggie enjoyed social bridge and hosting her family on holidays. She had a special love for the environment as God's earth and animals she owned and rescued.
In addition to her husband, Bobby James Bastin, Sr., she is survived by her blended family; daughter, Dorothy L. Farley Pope (Scott) of Brentwood, TN; son, Cody Rees Farley (Jennifer) of Chatsworth, CA; son, Bobby James Bastin, Jr. (Phyllis) of Springfield, KY; son, Brian C. Bastin (Donna) of Piperton, TN; daughter, Susan Bastin Leitensdorfer (Rocky) of Chesterfield, MO; grandchildren, Egan Farley, Tate Farley, Miranda Pope, Maggie Pope, Henry Pope, Jimmy Bastin (Kimberly), Michael Bastin, Kaelin Michelle Bastin, and Aletha Bastin; special remembrances to 3 lifelong friends, Shirlene Quinn, Marjorie Wilson, and Mary Jo Brown; last but not least, her four legged loves, Katie and Trooper.
The service will be 12 noon Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. The burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. The visitation will be 4-8PM Wednesday and 10AM until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Kentucky Wesleyan United Methodist Church or Owensboro Humane Society.
