Margaret Eleanor Fuqua Barton passed away at her home on Thursday November 27, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Homer L. Barton Jr., three children, Jean Raphael (David) Cantu, Gregory Lambert Barton, and Frederick McFerran (Jody) Barton, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Flittner of Evansville, Indiana, and Sister Jean Fuqua SP, of St. Mary of the Woods Indiana.
Eleanor was born in Owensboro on May 16, 1929, the firstborn daughter of George M. and Martine O'Bryan Fuqua. She attended St. Frances Academy in Owensboro and Nazareth Academy in Bardstown, where she graduated from both high school and college, and received a degree in music. She studied piano in graduate school at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory Of Music.
In addition to being first and foremost a wife and mother, Eleanor was an active participant in the civic life of Owensboro, serving as an officer of both the Junior Service League (now the Junior League) and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra Foundation, in addition to volunteer service with the Hospital Guild and other organizations. She was an avid reader and a bridge player, enjoyed tennis and golf and was a supporter of Brescia University.
The funeral service will be 10:30 am Saturday at Brescia University Chapel . Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to Brescia University, Boulware Center or the Daniel Pitino Shelter.
