Dr. Mack Rayburn, 90, died Sunday, November 2, 2008 in Owensboro. He was born in Dixon, Kentucky on Jan 1, 1918 to the late Jesse and Fabian (Biggs) Rayburn. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Virginia Wilson Rayburn in 1975 and a granddaughter; Kelli Fisher Smoot in 2003.
He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Louisville Medical School. He was in the last class of a dual residency of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology offered by Duke University. He served in Germany as a Major in the U.S. Army during 1954 to 1956. He enjoyed reading, traveling, and tennis. Dr. Rayburn was of the Unitarian Faith.
Survivors include his children; John Elam Rayburn, Patricia Ann Rayburn, Dr. Joseph Lee Rayburn and Robert Biggs (Lynn) Rayburn ; four grandchildren; Savannah Smoot, Sydney Smoot, Sara Rayburn, Katy Rayburn; one great-grandson; Ender Ryan and a sister; Ann (Jim) Levenson; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 5, 2008 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008 in Oak Grove Cemetery, Dixon, Kentucky. There will be no visitation on Thursday prior to services. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations in his honor to the Owensboro-Daviess County Library.
